Our Goal

The purpose of Designing the Future is to help students discover and use their “best stuff” to make a positive difference in their school, community, and world—both now and in the future. It’s about helping them reflect more deeply about who they are, where they’re headed, and how they can get there. It’s about helping them collaborate with their classmates in becoming “experts and changemakers.”

We want students to be inspired! We want them to use their voice for the common good by taking action that matters. We want them to create and participate in a spirit of discovery, engagement, collaboration, and empowerment.

The world will be a better place because of their thinking, their energy, their creativity, their compassion, and their hard work. And they’ll have fun, too!

“A growing body of research confirms that when adolescents are given the opportunity to project themselves into the future, engage with complex civic issues, and think about how what they’re learning might alter the course of their lives, they find more meaning in classroom work, reflect more frequently on who they are and what they want—and perform better academically.”
