We’re delighted to announce that the third annual Summer Institute for Authentic Learning and Leadership will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday, July 23-24, at Upper Arlington High School in Columbus, OH. Be sure to mark your calendar now!
The Institute will again reflect three major themes: reimagining education, reconnecting with the joy of teaching, and empowering students to change the world. Using these themes as a guide, we’ll provide a professional learning experience you won’t forget—inspiring, innovative, informative, collaborative, and fun! Great Speakers…Ron Berger, Michelle Pledger, Buddy Berry, and more!
Leading off the Institute will be renowned teacher, author, and experiential learning expert Ron Berger. Ron is Chief Academic Officer for EL Education, a national network of over 160 public project-based schools in 30 states. His writing and speaking center on inspiring quality and character in students by engaging them in “Beautiful Work”— important, exceptional work that contributes to the community in productive, meaningful ways.
Ron works closely with the Harvard Graduate School of Education and has been involved in Harvard Project Zero. He has written several highly regarded books, including Learning That Lasts, Leaders of Their Own Learning, Transformational Literacy, and An Ethic of Excellence.
More terrific news—inspiring keynoter Michelle Pledger will return by popular demand! Michelle will craft a new presentation for us, but she’ll bring the same exceptional energy, creativity, and insight we experienced in 2023.
Michelle is the Director of Liberation and a faculty member at High Tech High's Graduate School of Education, where she serves several significant initiatives, including the San Diego Teacher Residency Program, the Educational Leadership Program, the Center for Love and Justice, Improvement for Equity by Design, and Deeper Learning for Equity.
She is a dynamic educator, keynote speaker, author, and changemaker with over twenty years of teaching experience. Through her work in liberatory PBL and a plethora of authentic learning strategies, Michelle has inspired educators nationally and globally to help students think critically, act empathetically, and create positive change in their schools, communities, and the world.
And yes, the incomparable Buddy Berry, Superintendent of Eminence Independent Schools (KY), will return in a featured role to bring us new “surprise and delight” as a part of breakout sessions. Summer Institute just wouldn’t be the same without him!
We’re currently finalizing additional keynote and featured speakers and will share details in future newsletters. Registration details will also be available later, along with our annual Call for Presenters.
